As part of the Education State vision, the Victorian Government provided funding to Carrum Downs Secondary College through the 2016-17 School Pride Fund to improve the physical standard of facilities and increase community pride in the school. Carrum Downs Secondary College put this funding towards a café precinct.
In the 2017-18 State Budget, $3.01 million was provided to upgrade and modernise facilities at Carrum Downs Secondary College, including the refurbishment of classrooms and facilities that are in poor condition. These works will target facilities that need it most, ensuring that students learn in facilities that are commensurate with the delivery of modern education.
The school is in the planning phase of the project. The school will be supported by the VSBA to make sure that the building works are in line with the needs of the school community and that they fit in with the school's vision for the future. The school will then move into the design phase of the building project process. During this phase, the architect will take the school through a number of stages of design. Schematic Design is first, and will include developing floor plans, elevations and sections. Design Development is next, and focuses on details like materials and finishes, the landscape plan, engineering, electrical and structural parts of a project.
Once the designs are finalised, a building contract will be awarded and construction will start.
Smith + Tracey Architects have been appointed to this project.
