ABOUT THE PROJECT
We are building the new Edgars Creek Secondary College (interim name) to meet rapidly-increasing enrolment demand in Epping North. The school will accommodate 1,800 students in Years 7-12, and the first of two stages will open for term 1, 2018.
Opening in two stages will give students earlier access to a local secondary college.
Year 7 foundation students will be taught at Mernda Central P-12 College for terms 1 and 2, 2018. Students will have the benefits of outdoor play areas, gyms and specialised teaching facilities.
The Department of Education and Training will support students and families during this period, including by providing transport between Edgars Creek Secondary College and Mernda Central P-12 College. Students can be left and collected at a designated drop off point from day one, so their routine won't need to change.
Year 7 foundation students will transition to Edgars Creek Secondary College in term 3, 2018, once it is fully operational - six months ahead of the original plans.
The college will eventually be part of a wider education and community precinct that’s in the early planning stages. This will also incorporate a primary school, community activity centre and a council reserve.
The school will feature a two-storey, state-of-the-art STEM building. This will house science labs and flexible break-out spaces upstairs, and material tech and digital technology learning spaces downstairs. All are designed for contemporary teaching and learning approaches, with a focus on interdisciplinary project-based learning across Design, Technology and the Sciences.
Central tiered seating will offer a presentation space, and act as a gathering spot for important meetings and ceremonies. The new school will also have an administration and library resource centre, which can be shared with the community for professional development programs.
The VSBA is working closely with the City of Whittlesea to deliver a school that is an important piece of community infrastructure.
Other shared benefits include a community sports oval.
This will be part of a precinct with two grounds supporting community club development of Australian rules football and cricket, as well as being used by the new school for sports, PE classes and group activities.
The oval will be full-sized AFL-grade, and include sports training lights, coaches’ boxes, sports field fencing and a cricket pitch.

Primary schools are responsible for ensuring each Year 6 student has a place in a secondary school for Year 7. The transition process through the primary schools is underway, and parents can obtain a Year 7 Placement 2018 application from their primary school or the regional office.
The initial enrolment will be for Year 7 only.
The Department of Education and Training have developed an enrolment plan and Designated Neighbourhood Boundary for enrolments at Edgars Creek Secondary College.
