ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Footscray Learning Precinct will champion excellence in learning and teaching in Melbourne’s inner west at all stages of education. The precinct will build on the richness and diversity of the community and will provide opportunities for learning in a whole new way. It will link education facilities across Footscray, providing world-class learning opportunities for students, from early childhood through to secondary school and beyond. It will link and update existing buildings, many of which will be shared for use by the wider community.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

PHASE 1: ENGAGEMENT

During November 2016, we asked for your feedback on the proposed Footscray Learning Precinct. Hundreds of people completed the survey and attended information sessions throughout the month and your feedback helped finalise the feasibility study.

The community engagement sought to raise awareness about the Footscray Learning Precinct and inform the community about the proposed.

PHASE 1: WHAT WE HEARD

In early 2017 we released the Phase 1: Engagement Report. In brief:

PHASE 2: ENGAGEMENT

In August 2017, we asked you to help shape the next stage of the precinct and get your input into the design of the school buildings, transition arrangements for students, community use of facilities and the shared learning framework.
We wanted to share the challenges of delivering the next stage of the precinct, bringing you into the process as we developed solutions.

PHASE 2: WHAT WE HEARD

In November 2017, we released the Phase 2: Engagement Report. Thanks to everyone who contributed thoughts and comments about the future of education in Melbourne’s inner west.  The Footscray Learning Precinct: Phase 2 Community Engagement Report is now available below.

With your ideas, perspective and feedback we can develop an education precinct that is tailored to the needs of Melbourne’s inner west.  We have a committee of local principals, teachers and community members overseeing its development. They have read the detailed findings from the community engagement process and are including your ideas and feedback in their work.

TRANSITION, GOVERNANCE AND LEARNING FRAMEWORK UPDATE

After consulting the local community, committees made up of local principals, education experts and community leaders have developed the broad vision for the precinct as well as arrangements for school governance and student transition. Victoria University and the Maribyrnong City Council are partners in the precinct development.
This fact sheet provides updated details about plans to help secondary students transition to the new model, school governance and the shared learning framework.

NEXT STEPS

We are committed to providing the local community with ongoing updates about the Footscray Learning Precinct.

Next year we will provide information about the master plan for precinct sites and continue to update you about the details of the project, including transition and enrolment boundaries.

The Footscray Learning Precinct Vision and Leadership Committee will continue to work closely with school principals and school councils throughout this process.
