 PROJECT UPDATE

There are two projects happening at Kurunjang Primary School:

  • Modernisation Project
  • A community hub funded through the Shared Facilities Fund

MODERNISATION PROJECT

We will update and refurbish classrooms and facilities in poor condition to improve standards across the school. The works will target facilities that are most in need, ensuring the school has the learning facilities it requires to deliver modern education.

We have appointed an architect to work with the school on a number of design stages. This begins with developing floor plans, elevations and sections, before moving on to details like materials and finishes, the landscape plan, engineering, electrical and structural elements. Once the designs are finalised, we will award a building contract and start construction.

ARCHITECT

We have appointed Baldasso Cortese Architects to the project.

SHARED FACILITIES FUND PROJECT

The City of Melton is building a community hub next to Kurujang Primary School. The hub will host a range of activies that support community strengthening and development.

In the 2016-17 State Budget, the Victorian Government invested $50 million into the Shared Facilities Fund (SFF). The program funds schools, councils and other institutions to develop shared facilities such as early learning centres, sports facilities and community hubs.

These co-located and shared facilities improve connections between school and community, build a sense of collective purpose and transform neighbourhoods.

For more information on the Shared Facilities Fund, see: Shared Facilities Fund

FACILITIES

The Kurujang Community Hub will feature community rooms for a variety of active and passive learning programs. It will have a meeting room for consultations with service providers, and where school welfare officers can meet families away from formal school facilities. There will also be a kitchen space for small cooking demonstrations and classes, as well as a larger teaching kitchen, dining area and edible garden based on the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.

The school will be able to use the hub for curriculum learning, as well as other activities outside school hours.
