We’ve designed the school with the local community in mind and it will be a gathering place for local families and residents to enjoy community, arts, sports and recreation programs.
This is a Public Private Partnership being delivered by the Learning Communities Victoria consortium. Partners include Amber as sponsor, ClarkeHopkinsClarke as architect, Watpac as builder, Spotless as facilities manager and YMCA and CERES as community partners.
We’ve designed the school to support contemporary approaches to teaching and learning, and to foster a strong sense of community.
It will have ‘learning communities’ which allow the school to create a variety of spaces and settings to best suit different activities and maximise the learning experience for students.
This environment will encourage students to deeply engage with, and take ownership of, their learning. It includes spaces for informal and quiet reflection, hands-on learning, presentations, formal or direct instruction and outdoor learning.
While students will predominantly work in their grade groupings, there will be a variety of collaborative opportunities for them to engage with other learners.
Other key facilities include:
While maximum class size for Prep to Year 2 in Victorian schools is 21 students for each teacher, we anticipate smaller classes in the first year of this school – probably between 15 and 20 students.
Parents will have opportunities to participate in school life and support learning through a parent helpers program.
Clarke Hopkins Clarke are the architects for the project.
Watpac are the builders for the project.
Darren Roskosch is the principal.
He is overseeing curriculum development and a range of policies (such as ‘bullying’). These will be made available to parents in the coming months.
Darren will also be the key contact for staff recruitment. He will advertise all positions via the Victorian government school jobs ‘Recruitment Online’ portal.
Enrolments are now open for Prep to Year 6 in 2018. You can collect application forms from Surf Coast Secondary College or email principal Darren Roskosch on email@example.com or phone 0417 139 879.
