This will ensure every Victorian family has access to a great government school, our schools can cater for the state's rapidly growing population, and our students are equipped to thrive in the 21st century.
Find out if a school near you has received funding by looking at the latest Budget paper (pg 33 onwards).
MY SCHOOL HAS RECEIVED FUNDING, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The Minister for Education has sent a letter to each school receiving funding, outlining what the funding amount includes, details of training required and key contacts.
What is being built at my school?
We tailor every building project to the needs of the school and school community. The first stage for your school is to create an Asset Management Plan. This plan will help guide the school on maintenance and upgrade works required over the next five years.
The first step in creating an Asset Management Plan is for the school to articulate their Educational Vision, looking at the curriculum areas that they want to develop or enhance over the next five years. Schools create this in consultation with staff and students, and we provide training to help them through the process. Your school will already have been booked into this 'Bricks & Mortar' training.
The development of the Asset Management Plan should take 10 weeks. While this is ongoing, the school – in partnership with us – will appoint their architect. Architects will be appointed, in the majority of cases, by July. Once your school has developed their Educational Vision, they will create a list of projects in partnership with their architect.
Once appointed, the architect will work very closely with your school to create architectural plans and documentation for the building project. When documentation is complete, we can appoint a builder and construction can start.
WHAT ABOUT NEW SCHOOLS?
The process to build a new school is a bit different, because there is no existing school staff or community to work on the Asset Management Plan process.
So we create a New School Planning Group, made up of experts from the Department of Education, us and some principals from other schools.
You can find out about each of our new schools on our project pages
