What is a modular building?

[Keiran Nihill, Fleetwood Victoria]

Modular building is essentially a building that's built off-site in a factory environment, to be delivered to site in place of what would have been a typical bricks and mortar or in-situ building. We can turn a building over really quickly and really limit the amount of traffic and high-risk construction work that happens in a school environment that's occupied by children, parents and teachers every day. So that's the key feature; is that they can be built here and have kids essentially in classrooms, in a really quick turnaround.

The buildings are now, they're as close to state of the art as you'd like. They've got all the technology that a normal building would have. There are Wi-Fi points, there are interactive whiteboard points all set out. They're sustainable, have building management systems in that allow the buildings to be set to a certain temperature and they maintain that temperature Lighting is all low energy consumption. The buildings are fit with sensors. If there is enough natural light the lights to turn off, so it's all automated to reduce the carbon footprint.

We like to think that any building design and in any location, we can convert to a modular building.
