Inclusive education is supported by the 'Education for All' school policy, and various initiatives ranging from developing the knowledge and skills of teachers to specialist learning support for students with disabilities.
Pursuing inclusive education has also changed how we design and upgrade school buildings.
Our architects are guided by universal design principles that consider the needs of students with disabilities so they are able to use all school facilities to the greatest extent possible without special adaption.
Since 2015, schools have been able to apply to the Inclusive Schools Fund for innovative building projects that improve participation and learning outcomes for students with disabilities.
Successful projects include play areas with stimulating and accessible equipment, outdoor sensory gardens and indoor learning spaces that promote more inclusive classroom organisation and teaching practices.
