Twelve new schools opening in 2023 have their official names and are on track to welcome their first students for Term 1 next year.
What are the new school names?
- Barrawang Primary School was previously known by the interim name Wollert West Primary School.
- Donnybrook Primary School was previously known by the interim name Hayes Hill Primary School.
- Karwan Primary School was previously known by the interim name Riverdale East Primary School.
- Kurrun Primary School was previously known by the interim name Officer Rix Road Primary School.
- Lollypop Creek Primary School
- Mickleham Secondary College was previously known by the interim name Merrifield West Secondary School.
- Nearnung Primary School was previously known by the interim name Tarneit Missen House Primary School.
- Ngarri Primary School was previously known by the interim name Holyoake Parade Primary School.
- Quarters Primary School was previously known by the interim name Camms Road Primary School.
- Thornhill Park Primary School was previously known by the interim name Rockbank Murray Road Primary School.
- Wayi School was previously known by the interim name Mount Ridley Special School.
- Wollert Secondary College was previously known by the interim name Wollert East Secondary School.
These new schools are among 13 to open their doors to Victorian students and families in 2023. North Melbourne Primary School’s new Molesworth Street campus will also open in 2023.
How were the names selected?
School names were chosen following community consultation and discussions with Geographic Names Victoria. Factors taken into consideration included public interest, relevance to the local area and local Indigenous languages.
