The former Preston Girls’ Secondary College site will re-open as the new co-educational Preston High School in term 1, 2019, when it will take its first Year 7 students.
The construction of Stage 1 of Preston High School has been delayed due to severe weather events, including storm damage and flooding. To minimise disruption to learning and ensure student safety, the school will be based at the nearby Melbourne Polytechnic campus for the first part of term one.
If you have any questions about this, please call us on 1800 896 950. You can also find further information in the Preston High School Construction Update document.
Community Engagement
We undertook community engagement in early 2017, asking parents, students, teachers and the wider community what sort of school they would like.
More than 2,500 people participated in the engagement. We summarised their comments in an engagement report, which has helped shape the school’s educational direction and the architect’s master plan.
Facilities
We’re refurbishing the former school’s two-storey heritage building.
We are making use of the 3.9m-high ceilings and generously-sized spaces to create modern classrooms with space for art and a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning. On each level, there will also be breakout spaces for small group and individual projects.
At the back of the main building will be a central courtyard for students.
