The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (the Institute) built an Early Childhood Education and Care facility on the forecourt of its Parkville campus.
This five-storey, purpose-built facility will be an innovative model for multi-storey early learning facilities. It will also be the first facility of its kind provided by an Australian medical research institute as part of its commitment to gender equity.
This new early learning facility will provide high quality early learning programs (including innovative programs such as Little Scientists). It was designed in consultation with Institute partners and families.
Each level of the facility is purpose-built to meet the needs of specific age groups. The ground floor provides a flexible, multi-purpose space suitable for combined activities, play groups, health and consultation services.
The facility provides six large rooms serviced with bathrooms, staff rooms, arts spaces and storage areas. Each level will have access to shaded, external play areas.
Services will include long day care, occasional care and Early Learning Centre including 3 year old kindergarten and 4 year old kindergarten program and the opportunity for play groups, health and other services.

The Victorian Government is committed to providing high quality early years programs to give every child the best start in life.
