[Principal Jen Briggs]

We had architects and stakeholder groups meet with us regularly throughout the process and we just were asked to brainstorm and dream about the way we learn around here and how these buildings could support us to bring that to life.

As Jen speaks, we see a montage of illustrated renders featuring the first floor staff space and ground floor breakout space.

[Bilingual teacher Jackie Robertson]

At Footscray Primary School we are a designated bilingual school and the students do half of their learning in Italian and half of their learning in English. And the idea is that throughout the day, they might spend some time in the Italian space and then they will be transitioning, moving through into the English space.

As Jackie speaks we see a montage of illustrated renders featuring the ground floor breakout space, the level 1 breakout space and the staff collaboration space.

Our school is used for the community all the time, so we leave our gate open on the weekends and our grounds are used as green space.

So it was important to keep the green space but we also have a new court coming that we've decided to not put walls on.

So rather than a gymnasium locked off to the community, we've got a covered court area so the community can come in out-of-hours and use that.

We see an aerial proposed site plan of Footscray Primary School incorporating the upgrade and modernisation. Marked up on the plan is:

  • Edwardian Building
  • productive garden
  • staff parking
  • playground
  • outdoor learning
  • agora
  • Community Hub – COLA
  • Greenwood Building (E)
  • oval
  • General Learning Building
  • relocatables
  • Community landscape (school-led)

Then the camera pans across an illustrated render of the Covered outdoor learning area (COLA) interior, featuring photo-realistic children playing basketball.

[Joanie, student]

I'm excited because when the new sports centre is built, it will be so much cooler when it's really hot and it will be much warmer when it's cold.

Then the camera pans across an illustrated render of the Covered outdoor learning area (COLA) exterior, featuring a photo-realistic person on a bicycle, and some adults and children walking.

[Max, student]

With the bigger share spaces we might be able to play fun and games like if we want to play tag, there'll be more spaces to run and if we want to play hide and seek, there'll be more places to hide.

We see Joanie and Max looking at the plans for the upgrade.

The final shot is of Joanie and Max holding up posters of the future upgrade and dancing with them.

The video ends with the Victorian School Building Authority logo and website URL (www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au).
