We see Jean speaking to someone off-screen.

[On-screen text: What does good education look like to you?]

Jean: Good education is more than just academics. It's more than just reading, writing, maths, learning about history. Those things are really important, but so is inclusion and learning how to be kind to each other and your well-being and a sense of belonging.

[On-screen text: How will the design of the school help support students and teachers?]

Jean: We've got some amazing learning spaces that are being prepared for us. They can expect an exciting building and an exciting space, but I've always said it goes beyond what the physical aspect of the building looks like, and it's about the positive culture and the welcoming feel of the school and a strong teaching and learning program in the classroom.

[On-screen text: How will student wellbeing be supported?]

Jean: Wellbeing is really important and for me, across particularly my leadership journey, there's always been an emphasis on wellbeing. We want to get it right academically and we want to have high expectations for our students academically, but we also want to make sure they are well, they’re safe, their mental health and wellbeing is supported.

[On-screen text: What was your journey into education?]

Jean: I always wanted to be a teacher. I don't remember very much about being little, but I can remember lining my dolls up and teaching them. I always knew I was going to go to university. Teaching’s part of my fibre, and part of what I do. I've been teaching in every role, even as principal at my last school, I had a teaching role and that will continue into the new school. Expect to see me somewhere teaching because it's what I do.

[On-screen text: What does it mean to be a supported inclusion school?]

Jean: We’re a supported inclusion school, which means we have places for students who have an intellectual disability that gives them a chance to learn alongside their peers in a mainstream setting. We'll be targeting teachers who do have a special ed background or interest to support those students. We've got things like a sensory room. We've got breakout rooms for children who might need that additional support because of the inclusivity of our school.

[On-screen text: What are you looking forward to on day 1, Term 1?]

Jean: I'm really looking forward to seeing everything in place and in action. So seeing the uniform and the logo on the signs and on the students and on the bags and in the classrooms to seeing what the space looks like with people in it. Primary schools are all about the kids, so hearing that buzz on the first day that excited back-at-school buzz will be great.
