About the project

We're building a new secondary school in Clyde North. It will open for day one of Term 1 in 2026. It will be able to enrol up to 550 students when the school is completed.

This school will help meet increasing enrolment demand from a growing local population. It will help local students get high-quality education close to home.

We are building this school in stages. We’re working with the builder to make sure key facilities are ready for the first students on Day 1 of Term 1, 2026. We expect to complete the remaining facilities by Term 2, 2026.

When open for Term 1, 2026, the school will include:

  • a science building with:
    • 7 classrooms suitable for use across a range of subjects
    • 2 informal learning areas
    • staff and meeting rooms
    • staff and student toilets
  • a relocatable building with 2 general purpose classrooms
  • 2 relocatable buildings for specialist subjects
  • a relocatable administration building
  • landscaping and a grassed open area
  • a car park.

By Term 2, 2026 we expect to complete:

  • a technology building
  • a library and administration building
  • a learning neighbourhood
  • a sports field and hard courts.

Enrolments for 2026 are open

In its first year of operation, Birranga College will open to Year 7 students only. An additional year level will be added each following year. The 2026 school zones are available at findmyschool.vic.gov.au.

For enrolment enquiries, please continue to email clyde.creek.north.ss@education.vic.gov.au until the new school email is assigned.

Your new school name

The school was known by its interim name, Clyde Creek North Secondary School, during planning and design. Birranga College was chosen as this new school’s name following community and Traditional Owner group consultation. Birranga (pronounced BEE-rang-uh) is a Bunurong Boonwurrung language word meaning feathertail glider.

Principal appointment

Nick Hamer-Smith has been appointed principal of Birranga College. He has been teaching in government schools for 24 years. He has been involved in several leadership roles, most recently as co-principal of Glen Eira College. Nick is passionate about working with the school community to support students to reach their potential.

Funding

In the 2024–25 State Budget, this school shared in $947.7 million allocated for new schools construction.
