About the project
We’re building an early learning and childcare centre next to Nicholson Primary School. The Victorian Government-owned centre will be run by Early Learning Victoria.
The centre will provide long day care, Three-Year-Old Kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs, with space for up to 102 local children in the centre each day. The centre will have outdoor play areas, a carpark and a consulting room for child and family services, such as maternal and child health and allied health. It will also have a multi-purpose room for community meetings and playgroups.
From 2026, Four-Year-Old Kindergarten will transition to Pre-Prep in East Gippsland Shire Council with children eligible to receive 16 to 20 hours of Pre-Prep.

This centre was previously known as Nicholson and District Early Learning and Childcare Centre (interim name).
Funding
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Victorian Government through the Building Early Education Fund 2026. The Victorian Government is contributing $107 million towards 11 projects, and the Australian Government will invest $63 million.
