About the project
We’re building an early learning and childcare centre next to Nicholson Primary School. The Victorian Government-owned centre will be run by Early Learning Victoria.
The centre will provide long day care, 3- and 4-Year-Old Kinder programs, with space for up to 102 local children in the centre each day. The centre will have outdoor play areas, a carpark, and a consulting room for child and family services, such as maternal and child health and allied health. It will also have a multi-purpose room for community meetings and playgroups.
Families in East Gippsland Shire will be able to access more hours of 4-Year-Old Kinder from 2026 increasing from 15 hours to between 16 and 20 hours per week.

This centre was previously known as Nicholson and District Early Learning and Childcare Centre (interim name).
Funding
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Victorian Government through the Building Early Education Fund 2026. The Victorian Government is contributing $107 million towards 11 projects, and the Australian Government will invest $63 million.
