About the project
We are upgrading and expanding this school, allowing it to enrol an extra 200 local students.
It will include a new two-storey learning hub, where various learning opportunities will be available, including its bilingual program.
It also will include a new covered outdoor learning area (COLA) building.
This school is part of the Footscray Learning Precinct, which champions excellence in learning and teaching in Melbourne's inner west at all stages of education. The precinct builds on the richness and diversity of the community and provides opportunities for learning in new ways.

From the 2020–21 Infrastructure Planning and Acceleration fund, the school was allocated $2.249 million in planning funding.
In the 2020–21 State Budget, the school received at least $18.217 million from a pool of more than $85 million to expand seven schools in high-growth areas.

Footscray Primary School will open a new double-storey learning hub and a covered outdoor learning area in 2023.
We are upgrading and expanding the school to provide more enrolment places and improved learning opportunities for local students.
This school is part of the Footscray Learning Precinct, which champions excellence in learning and teaching in Melbourne’s inner west at all stages of education. The precinct builds on the richness and diversity of the community and provides opportunities for learning in new ways.
Footscray Primary School received at least $20.4 million to plan and bring their upgrade to life. It is part of the Victorian Government’s $10.9 billion investment to build 100 new schools and upgrade more than 1,700 existing ones.
“This upgrade means so much to our school community, and these new facilities will provide more learning opportunities than ever before for local Footscray students and spaces for our community to come together.”

Two-storey learning hub
The new hub is split across two levels and creates a direct connection to the school oval. It allows the school to steadily increase enrolments to an additional 200 local students from the growing Footscray community.
In the hub, students will have access to classroom spaces and resources catered to every learning style – from nooks where staff can work with students in smaller groups to larger breakout spaces for shared learning.
Sensory retreat spaces in the hub will support neurodiversity in learners, alongside learning bases dedicated to supporting the school’s bilingual program.
A Staff Centre on the first level will provide a space for teachers to collaborate and engage in professional development.
Covered outdoor learning area (COLA)
At the heart of the school is the COLA – a covered outdoor learning area. This space includes large storerooms for sporting equipment and changing rooms with toilet facilities.
Staff, students and their families will come together for school events here, alongside sporting activities such as basketball and netball.
Members of the community can use the area on the weekends.
