Introducing

Lian Davies
Merrifield West Secondary College (interim name)

Lian Davies is shown talking to a person off-camera from different angles.

Lian Davies: Hi, I'm Lian Davies and I'm really excited to be your new principal in 2023.

[on-screen text]
What type of leader are you?

Lian: So I've been in education for 16 years. I think as a leader I'm someone who likes to engage with everyone. I love to interact with the students and the staff, get their feedback and listen to what people have to say.

What is your vision for this school?

Lian: We're hoping to really create an inclusive environment where everybody feels like they can look forward to coming to school. They really enjoy being there. It's a place that is warm, engaging, exciting. Everyone feels like they're part of something and that something might look different for every individual student. But it's still a school that you belong to, and it's something that you feel that you are a key part of, and you get to make the school and shape the school.

[on-screen text]
How will students be supported?

Lian: I've always been someone who likes to get out there, I want the students to know who I am, and I want to know who they are. When any students coming from primary to secondary, it's a big transition, but it's an exciting one. And if you work together, you get to spend that time with the students to help them feel comfortable in their new setting. This is obviously brand new, so I can't wait to see what the students think when they walk in on their first day.

What do you think of the new build?

Lian: The plans look incredible. It's really great to see facilities like that for students. It'll be somewhere that the students can be proud of, and then they will get to shape and add their flavour to it. I really like the idea of there's learning neighbourhoods, we've got these flexible spaces that just gives us that opportunity to be more flexible in what we're doing in our learning. You really can get a great flavour for the different opportunities and exciting things and innovative things that you can do with students, especially when you're in new buildings like that.

[on-screen text]
Where can we find you on day 1, Term 1?

Lian: Day one, Term one, right at the front of that school, there excitedly waiting for all the students with a big smile on my face to hopefully show them something that we're just so proud of opening. It's a new area and a beautiful new school, so I can't wait to see their smiles and to meet them and introduce myself on that first day.
