Inside the new South Melbourne Primary School

Atmospheric music plays throughout the video, underneath a voiceover.

[Noel Creese, Principal]
I was nervous at the start - early days. And I came down to have a look at the site, and it was about 12 months out from its completion. And I saw a desolate field, and some concrete pylons in the ground…
12 months and it’s a 5 storey, 6 level building.How’s this going to be?
So my feeling was one of excitement but also nervousness for the staff, and we just committed to each other, we were going to do everything we can to make it a positive experience for our colleagues, for our community… but most of importantly for our kids.

[Cameron Smith, Teacher]
Being the first day at South Melbourne Primary, it’s very nerve wracking in a lot of ways but also very exciting. And it’s just really good to see the kids really happy.

[Noel Creese, Principal]
It’s a beautiful building, but the heartbeat are the children... are the sounds children we can hear in the background; the sound of the teachers voice in front of those children, working together to make it brighter than it was from when the kids walked in this morning.
That’s what it’s all about.

The video ends with the Victorian School Building Authority logo and website URL (www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au).
