About the project

We built a new secondary college in the City of Hume. It opened in 2023, helping the growing local population get great education close to home.

In its first year of operation, the college will be able to enrol up to 800 students. The school will open to Year 7 students only, and progress by year level thereafter. Once all stages are completed, the school will accommodate 1,200 students.

Lian Davies has been appointed as the new principal of this school.

Funding

In the 2021–22 State Budget, this school shared in the $491.565 million for new schools construction.

Funding type
New School
  • Mickleham Secondary College was chosen as the new school name following community consultation. The school is named after the suburb it is located in.

We used Merrifield West Secondary School as an interim name while the school was being built and established.

  • Lian Davies has been appointed as the new principal of this school.

Lian is an experienced international educator, keynote speaker and leader with a passion for global educational systems, strategies and empowering young people. Lian has worked in Scotland, New Zealand and Australia, and won The Educator Rising Star Award in 2018 for her work in individualised learning and tertiary education pathways. Most recently the principal at Whittlesea Secondary College, Lian looks forward to bringing her innovative education style to a new school community at Mickleham Secondary College.

  • The first stage of the school includes:

    • an administration building with a library, staff offices and amenities
    • a learning neighbourhood building
    • a science building
    • a materials technology building
    • a community hub building with a competition-grade basketball/netball court, canteen, music, drama and food technology teaching spaces
    • 4 outdoor hardcourts
    • a sports field.
  • Funding for a second stage of the school depends on future state budgets, but plans include:

    • another learning neighbourhood building
    • a visual arts building.

When the second stage is built, the school will be able to grow to 1200 students.

  • We’ve planned construction so the school can open with everything it needs, including different types of teaching spaces. The second stage caters for future school growth.
