About the project
We built a new primary school in the City of Wyndham. It opened in 2023, helping the growing local population get great education close to home.
The school will have space for 525 local students and is open for enrolments for students in Prep to Grade 6. A new specialist campus for Warringa Park is located next door for primary-aged students with intellectual disabilities.
Chris Simmons has been appointed as the principal of the school.
In the 2021–22 State Budget, this school shared in the $491.565 million for new schools construction.
-
Nearnung Primary School was chosen as the new school name following community consultation. Nearnung (pronounced nee-a-noong) is a Bunurong word meaning black cockatoo.
We used Tarneit Missen House Primary School as an interim name while the school was being built and established.
-
Chris Simmons was appointed as the new principal of this school.
Chris is a motivated and proud state school leader. She has held several principal positions in both Queensland and Victoria, and was most recently foundation principal at Cairns State Special School P–12. Chris is committed to leading teaching, learning, innovation and change. Her goal is to engage and collaborate with the community to achieve the best possible outcomes for all young people.

-
The school includes:
- an administration building with a library, staff offices and amenities
- 2 learning neighbourhood buildings with general purpose classrooms, and flexible and collaborative teaching spaces
- a specialist learning neighbourhood building for subjects such as food technology and science
- a community hub with a competition-grade gymnasium, canteen, music and drama space
- 2 outdoor hardcourts
- a sports field.
-
Every new Victorian primary school will have a kindergarten on-site or next door. Co-locating kindergartens at primary schools provides many benefits for Victorian families, including making:
- kindergarten programs easier to access
- drop-off time simpler and more convenient
- the transition from kindergarten to school smoother for children.
As such, we partnered with Wyndham City Council to build Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre.
This centre will provide the local community with access to high quality kindergarten, maternal and child health care and other family services.
