About the project
We built a new primary school in the City of Melton. It opened in 2023, helping the growing local population get great education close to home.
The school will have space for 525 local students and is open for enrolments for students in Prep to Grade 6.
Darryl Spiteri has been appointed as the new principal of this school.
In the 2021–22 State Budget, this school shared in the $491.565 million for new schools construction.
-
Thornhill Park Primary School was chosen as the new school name following community consultation. The school is named after the suburb it is located in.
We used Rockbank Murray Road Primary School as an interim name while the school was being built and established.

Darryl Spiteri has been appointed as the new principal of this school.
Darryl is an experienced educator with a strong background in fostering community and school culture in a growing and changing neighbourhood. He has always worked and lived in Melbourne’s west, both as principal at Rockbank Primary School and assistant principal at The Grange P-12 College. Darryl looks forward to bringing his local knowledge to this new school community to Thornhill Park Primary School.

The school includes:
- an administration building with a library, staff offices and amenities
- 2 learning neighbourhood buildings with general purpose classrooms, and flexible and collaborative teaching spaces
- a specialist learning neighbourhood building for subjects such as food technology and science
- a community hub with a competition-grade gymnasium, canteen, music and drama space
- 2 outdoor hardcourts
- a sports field
- a bike shed.
-
Every new Victorian primary school will have a kindergarten on-site or next door. Co-locating kindergartens at primary schools provides many benefits for Victorian families, including making:
- kindergarten programs easier to access
- drop-off time simpler and more convenient
- the transition from kindergarten to school smoother for children.
As such, we are partnering with Melton City Council to build Thornhill Park Children's and Community Centre, a four-room kindergarten that can offer up to 264 kindergarten places for local families. It also includes maternal child health and allied health services.
The kindergarten will open in 2023.

We held an information session on Thursday 6 October 2022.
