About the project
We built a new specialist school in the City of Hume. It opened in 2023, helping the growing local population get great education close to home.
The school has space for 144 students.
Leanne Sinnadurai was appointed as the new principal of this school.
In the 2021–22 State Budget, this school shared in the $491.565 million for new schools construction.
-
Wayi School was chosen as the new school name following community consultation. Wayi (pronounced wah-yee) is a Woi-wurrung word of the Wurundjeri people meaning ‘us’.
We used Mount Ridley Special School as an interim name while the school was being built and established.
-
Leanne Sinnadurai was appointed as the new principal of this school.

She has also led School Improvement Teams within the Hume Moreland Network to improve student outcomes at a system level. Leanne welcomes the opportunity to lead the Wayi School community to develop a culture of excellence and inclusion.
