About the project
We built a 3-room kindergarten at Wirrigirri Primary School.
The kinder will be run by the City of Whittlesea and will open in 2026. It will be able to offer kinder to 99 children at a time. It may be able to enrol more local kids by spreading classes throughout the week.
Locating the kinder at the school will help some families before and after school with drop-off and pick-up. It will also help some children make a smoother transition into primary school.
Enrolment
City of Whittlesea will be appointing a provider to run the kindergarten. All enrolment and program enquiries are managed by City of Whittlesea.
Your new kindergarten name
Wirrigirri Kindergarten was chosen as this kindergarten's name following community and Traditional Owner Group consultation. Wirrigirri (pronounced werry-jerry) is a Woi-wurrung word of the Wurundjeri people meaning messenger.
While being built this kindergarten had the interim names of Wirrigirri Primary School Kindergarten and Wollert Central Primary School Kindergarten.
Funding
This project shares in the approximate $580 million in capital funding committed since the 2019–20 State Budget to support the rollout of Three-Year-Old-Kindergarten.
